Home Grain Bakery shopfront in Aldinga

Aldinga, South Australia

Our story

The building

A corner with a long memory.

For more than a century, this corner of Old Coach Road has been part of daily life in Aldinga.

Before it was Home Grain Bakery, the building was known to many locals as the old general store: a place for errands, familiar faces, and stories that carried from one generation to the next. People still come in and tell us what this place meant to them as children, as parents, as visitors, and as neighbours.

2011

Home Grain begins

Home Grain Bakery opened here in 2011, bringing new life to the old shopfront with bread, pies, pastries, coffee, and a simple belief that good food should feel generous. Over the years, the bakery became part of the rhythm of the Fleurieu: early coffees, beach-day pastries, work lunches, weekend pies, and the kind of regular order the team starts remembering before you ask.

March 2024

In March 2024, Home Grain Bakery became ours.

We are Katie and Dave, a growing family of five. Before we took over ownership, Katie was already part of the bakery as retail manager, working with the team, serving regulars, learning the rhythm of the place, and seeing first-hand what Home Grain meant to people.

When we heard that Toff and Cara were ready to let the bakery move into a new chapter, we took the opportunity head on.

Now

Built with care

It was never about starting from scratch. Home Grain already had a story, a loyal community, and a much-loved place on Old Coach Road. Our job now is to honour what came before while building the next version with care, energy, and intention.

Home Grain today

Early starts, full shelves, familiar faces.

Today, we want Home Grain to feel generous, grounded, and welcoming: the kind of bakery where the coffee matters, the shelves are full, the food is made with care, and people feel known when they walk through the door.

We are here for the regulars, the beachgoers, the tradies, the families, the road-trippers, the cyclists, the school-run coffee seekers, and everyone who finds their way to the purple doors.

Today, our days start early: mixing, baking, opening the doors, pouring the first coffees, filling the cabinet, and getting ready for the familiar morning rush.

We are working towards a bakery that feels steady, generous, and genuinely local. Good bread, proper pastries, pies people come back for, coffee made with care, and a team that knows the regulars by name.

Care in the making

Food that feels generous, familiar, and worth coming back for.

Part of Aldinga

A bakery shaped by regulars, beachgoers, families, and the old building itself.

The next chapter

Honouring what Home Grain has been while making it steadier every day.

Our intention is simple: to keep honouring the bones of this place while making the bakery better, steadier, and more ourselves every day.
